Azomycin (2-Nitroimidazole) is an antibiotic which can be active against aerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria[1]. Azomycin and the 5-nitroimidazole ronidazole did not bind to any G. lamblia proteins, which is in contrast to previous findings in E. histolytica and T. vaginalis. All nitroimidazoles tested reduced intracellular thiol pools in G. lamblia[2]. The biosynthetic gene cluster for azomycin is widely distributed among soil-dwelling actinobacteria and proteobacteria, suggesting that azomycin and related nitroimidazoles may play important ecological roles[3]. Azomycin capsule is bioequivalent to Zithromax capsule and Azomycin suspension is bioequivalent to Zithromax suspension[4].
