描述

Castor oil is a natural triglyceride and solvent. Castor oil has laxative properties and induces labour in pregnant women. Castor oil is used as a solvent, co-solvent, stabiliser and polyol for the formation of polymer-nanoparticle composites^[1]^[2].Castor oil is a non-edible vegetable oil that has been widely used as a bioresource material for the synthesis of biodegradable polymers, cosmetics, lubricants, biofuels, coatings and adhesives. Due to its versatile chemical properties, Castor oil is used in medicine and biorefineries^[1].

Animal study

When Castor oil is administered to wild-type mice, they begin to suffer from intense diarrhoea after 30 minutes. The laxative effect lasts for about 2 hours^[2].
