描述 | Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) plays a crucial role in the growth and functional development of the brain in infants and is necessary for maintaining normal brain function in adults. Consuming a diet rich in DHA enhances learning abilities and memory[1]. DHA is vital for various stages of brain development, including neural cell proliferation, migration, differentiation, and synaptogenesis. Its multiple double bonds and unique structure confer special membrane properties that facilitate effective cell signaling. Decreased levels of DHA are associated with various developmental disorders such as dyslexia, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and schizophrenia[2]. DHA also is a potent retinoid X receptor (RXR) ligand, triggering robust activation of RXR at low micromolar concentrations, with an EC50 for RXRα activation between 5-10 μM fatty acid[3]. |
