生物活性
描述 Spermine is a major natural intracellular compound capable of protecting DNA from free radical attack. Spermine at physiologically relevant concentrations inhibits ROS-induced DNA damage, with maximal inhibition observed at 1 to 2 mM. These concentrations are well within the estimates for the physiological concentrations of spermine[1]. Spermine can promote the antioxidant capacity by increasing enzymatic antioxidant capacity, glutathione content and clearance of oxygen radicals; spermine significantly increased the mRNA levels of enzymatic antioxidant substances, NF-E2-related nuclear factor 2, Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1, and the mammalian target of rapamycin but decreased the mRNA levels of ribosomal p70 S6 kinase in the liver and longissimus dorsi of the piglets[2]. Decreased spermine level may be used as an indicator of malignant phenotype transformation from normal to malignant tissue in prostate. The mechanism between spermine and PCa (prostate cancer) development are possibly related to the regulation of polyamine metabolism, cancer-driving pathways, oxidative stress, anticancer immunosurveillance, and apoptosis regulation[3]. Moreover, spermine facilitates selective autophagic degradation of prion aggregates by binding to microtubule protein Tubb6[4].
