Steviol is the aglycon derivative of steviol glycosides, which are natural sweeteners isolated from S. rebaudiana. Steviol inhibits human organic anion transporters (hOATs) in uptake assays using murine cells from the S2 segment of proximal tubules. Steviol glycosides enhance pancreatic beta-cell function and taste sensation by potentiation of TRPM5 channel activity.
Isosteviol, an antihyperglycemic agent, is a natural product isolated and purified from the herbs of Stevia rebaudiana with anti-hyperglycemic, anti-hypertensive, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.
Steviolbioside, a natural product isolated and purified from the leaves of Stevia rebaudia, is converted into antituberculotic and antibacterial agents. In addition it is used as a natural sweetener.
(+)-Mellein is a natural product isolated and purified from the herbs of Goniothalamus griffithii.
