Sulfacetamide Sodium Monohydrate is a synthetic sulfanylacetamide, working by inhibiting bacterial folic acid synthesis through competing with para amino benzoic acid.
Sulfacetamide sodium (Monohydrate) is a widely used sulfonamide for ophthalmic infections[3]. Sodium sulfacetamide is effective in the management of a variety of inflammatory facial dermatoses and is often used in combination with sulfur for a synergistic effect[4]. Sodium sulfacetamide 10%-sulfur 5% has been used for the topical treatment of seborrheic dermatitis, acne vulgaris, and rosacea[5]. The combination of sodium sulfacetamide and sulfur is unique in the rosacea armamentarium because of its dual use as topical therapy and therapeutic cleanser[6]. Moreover, SA-loaded (sulfacetamide sodium) microspheres were proven to be highly effective in the treatment of ocular keratitis[7]. SS(sulfacetamide-sodium) and SS containing drugs could, safely, be sterilized by radiation and that SS did not exhibit good dosimetric features[8].
