描述 Pentacosanoic acid is a saturated fatty acid with a 25-carbon chain length. It acts as the conjugate acid of pentacosanoate[1].

Pentacosanoic Acid/二十五烷酸 动物研究

Animal study The extent of demyelination in adrenoleukodystrophy correlates with the ratios of Pentacosanoic to Docosanoic acid (C25:0/C22:0 and C26:0/C22:0). Areas severely impacted, where the active process has concluded, predominantly contain mid-chain saturated fatty acids (C24:0, C25:0, and C26:0). This observation is due to regions with high long-chain fatty acid content yet without histopathological changes being identified[1].Areas where the myelin sheath is destroyed and axons are retained are usually most prominent at the anterior edge of the lesion. A bell-shaped distribution of very long-chain fatty acids, esterified to cholesterol, can be detected, with midpoints formed by pentadecanoic acid (C25:0) and hexadecanoic acid (C26:0)[1].
