Geraniol is a monoterpenic alcohol and has the activity of geraniol against prostate, bowel, liver, kidney and skin cancer. It can induce apoptosis and increase the expression of proapoptotic proteins[3]. The treatment of geraniol inhibited the expression of IL-1β-induced PGE2, NO, COX-2, iNOS, TNF-α and IL-6. Besides, geraniol inhibited the expression of MMP-9 and ADAMTS-5, and reversed the degradation of aggrecan and type II collagen. Geraniol suppressed IL-1β-stimulated PI3K/Akt/NF-κB and MAPK activation[4]. Histopathological examination revealed that simultaneous treatment with geraniol in AlCl3 intoxicated rats ameliorate the liver lesions such as necrosis, inflammatory cell infiltration, vacuolar degeneration, along with hyperemia and the cell density of the Langerhans islands[5]. Geraniol significantly promoted the recovery of neuronal function and attenuated neuropathic pain after SCI(spinal cord injury) [6]. Geraniol (25, 50 and 100 mg/kg) exerted a depressant effect on the central nervous system of rats[7].
