Malotilate is a hepatoprotective agent that selectively inhibits 5-lipoxygenase with an IC50 value of 4.7μM[3]. Malotilate at concentrations of 0.1 – 100μM increased collagenase secretion in the multilayered cultures of normal human dermal fibroblasts, but not in the monolayers[4]. Pretreatment of rat lung endothelial (RLE) cells with malotilate (10 and 20ng/mL) for 24 h markedly inhibited the invasion of the RLE monolayer by c-SST-2 cells. In SHR rats inoculated with c-SST-2 tumors, administration with malotilate (300mg/kg/day), which started 7 days before or after c-SST-2 cell inoculation, significantly suppressed pulmonary metastatic compared with non-treated or vehicle control rats[5].
